Covert crimes and criminals taking action to harm or kill by leaving targets in vulnerable situations with no resources, and no one to turn to. By disrupting the social and economic ties of an individual by use of shame, slander or defamation, for example, a stalker can disrupt relationships, or support from groups and associations a target relies upon to survive.
Stalkers might paint a target as an unstable individual, a pervert, a person with dark secrets, or simply 'a dangerous person'. Stalkers may study the target long before the stalking begins. Emotional, physical and psychological abuse of the target along with harassment and demoralization are also common. Torture, and pharmacological torture can result in a state of confusion or dismay that can also be used to create the impression of insanity or instability and invalidate an otherwise credible witness. A child might be shamed into silence or complicity with activities they do not want to participate in by taking gifts, or by being reminded of the shame of an accusation even worse.
Foreshadowing circumstances known to be disturbing to a victim, setting up participation in criminal activity - or creating the impression of the same; creating disturbances such as sleep deprivation, or banishment, or disallowing privacy or private time can create the impression of an unstable, distraught individual, unfit or incapable of coping or functioning normally under any circumstance.
In some cases, as in Prospero's Speech, a heinous injustice can mortify us - we become paralyzed, and fall prey to an evil we cannot comprehend. Historically, and even today, tactics have gone far beyond fear, threats, and intimidation. Bizarre theatrics, or events that include public humiliation or horrifying scenes, such as human sacrifice have been used for thousands of years to establish tyranny, to assert authority, and campaign against targets of every kind.
Commonly these tactics lead to trauma and bankruptcy disabling the target to invalidate testimony, or make someone seem insane. Less frequently, prisons, institutions and death, often in the form of suicide are arranged or induced by these assaults. Motives include silencing a witness, securing children, or the property or business of an individual, or expediting some ill founded form of justice for ill perceived crimes as a vigilante, or group of vigilantes. Though pleading is common, the targets often don't know what the accusations are, or who's making them.
Frequently, "the story" is told in public settings in order to justify exploitation, or offensive behavior used to render victims helpless. Ignoring the basic needs of someone, or leaving them helpless in a dangerous situation without inadequate housing, clothing, food, or medical care exposes them to the predators they have been dealing with all along. When no alternatives exist but the authorities we know may already be involved, we are dealing death.
Because the methods used provide little trace of evidence, and because the targeted individuals usually cannot get away, or gain access to the courts, others will try to explain that this is just another case of bad luck and encourage a target to face the fact that they really are crazy, that they have no case, and that its useless to continue to fight. What they fail to realize is that the bad luck never ends, that it proceeds unabated until there is no where to go, no life to live, no money, no home, no friends, no support, and no opportunity to redress wrongs regardless of offender or offense.
Efforts made to save are often useless because the community or authorities have given up, or believe nothing can be done; though the crisis may exist, there's no way to prove what's taking place, and no criminals to charge. Like the justice system, any charge can be levied against any person at anytime. Whether it is sanctioned or not, it is clear that our rivers and valleys, even waste disposal systems are filled with undesirables. Though many people, including author's like Lovecraft have made us aware of these circumstances in our country since the early 20's, as he puts it, "nothing good has come of it" and so it is not 'made known'. Gates of Repentance
Like a victim on a busy street, no one takes any action to help because they think someone else will, or because they think they will be targeted themselves for 'aiding and abetting', or because they too have been corrupted by the dehumanizing influences that can take hold in a community at large. Its hard to believe that we cannot face our own behavior in this Country, but it is true that we are more likely to face the death penalty without a trial, than we are with one.
A form of psychological abuse in which false accusations or information is presented with the intent of making a victim doubt his or her own memory and perception. By denying abusive acts or obvious facts or staging bizarre events to create shock and dismay, a stalker can confuse and disorient a victim, intimidate a target, and/or identify vulnerabilities in either.
Behavior intended to disturb or upset, usually repetitive. Intentional behavior which is found threatening or disturbing. Sexual harassment refers to persistent and unwanted sexual advances, including harassment in the workplace or marketplace, or at locations where a victim might need to go to obtain essential products or services, and where the consequences of refusing are potentially very disadvantageous to the victim, e.g., the Health Care System.
The deliberate show of affection or friendship by an individual or a group of people toward another individual often motivated in part by the desire to recruit, convert or otherwise influence.
Same crime, new witnesses.
